Its very good, and Dan does a neat job, but its a bit US-China focused. More like a chat room for China based lawyers although it does make you think sometimes. Popular though.  Â
Good but a bit restricted at times. Its fun though for some neat commentary but too American and theres Germans and French out here too....
Of course the overall perspective is going to be "American" as both of our bloggers are American (one in Seattle, one in Shanghai), but every blog is going to have its own bias. But it ridiculous to act as though we are somehow an "American" blog. Go to Alexa and you will see that we get twice as many readers from the United Kingdom as from the United States! About 40% of our readers come from Europe, about 40% come from Asia, and only about 15% come from North America, with the rest coming from Australia and Africa.Â
I find it very troubling, frankly, that people are coming on here and anonomously posting false assertions.  Why don't you at least have the guts to identify yourself?Â
These two American bloggers take a wide view of business and legal events in China. Witty, funny, insightful, and at time prescient, China Law Blog examines events and trends in China and their impact on America, Europe, and Asian markets.
I keep coming back because I am both educated and entertained about the context. That's what I want in my blog. For greater depth, I'll hire an analyst. Or perhaps reach out to Dan, if he's available...
A bit touchy there Dan, maybe the competition is getting to you? People are entitled to their views, and there are a lot of blogs, each to his own, live and let live. Yours is great, but its not necesarrily the best, it depends upon the individual reader and what they are looking for, and they have choices. Fortunately, most of them are good. Now there's some China development for you ! Best of luck to you - a lot of anonymous I bet voted for you because of the major hassle here on Chinalyst of registering, so don't be surprised if comments come in also anon. Its not a criticism to be a US-China focused blog after all, what do you feel like - world domination? Not your style and it doesn't suit a China firm so calm down! "Pressure da da da dum dum under pressure da da da dum dum"   Â
From what I can see ChinaLawBlog is about 60 votes ahead of All Roads Lead to China and some 70 ahead of China Briefing, with just a week to go. Those are the leaders. I cannot see what he has to worry about. You average that out and ClawBlog should end up winning with about 250 votes, All Roads and ChinaBrief about equals for second on 150 max. People can say what they like but its the votes that count, and Clawblog is way ahead. Your nearly there Dan, I carn't see the others catching up the way voting has gone so far. More exciting than Harry Potter this.
Ah yes, I see that things are stirring here! Dan is definitely in the house!
Is Dan being a bit "touchy"? Yeah, probably. But if you read the CLB regularly you are not surprised. He cares and he is engaged. People read and comment because they know that not only can they learn something, but that Dan and the guys at CLB have an opinion, are not afraid to state it and are not afraid to have someone challenge it.  That is what blogs are about.Â
A BIT touchy? He needs a nice cup of Green tea. Dan has a good blog but he doesn't have the automatic right to win. Thats why competitions like this are good. I'd never heard of All Roads To China for example but it seems popular, so now I'll check it out. It'll be interesting who wins in this section, it seems to have some of the most voting and entries.
My irritation was/is completely unrelated to the competition. I have no "automatic right" to win and I also love these things for the publicity they bring to various excellent blogs out there, many of which I have voted for myself. As anyone who reads my blog knows, I am a huge booster of various other blogs, both new and established and most of the blogs in this category have been called out by me in posts and/or are in my blogroll.
No, my irritation arose from people coming on here ANONYMOUSLY who have either not read my blog or are just making stuff up about it for the benefit of the competition. That ain't right and I am not going to let that sort of thing go on without calling people out on it.Â
So, yes, to quote Derek, I am in the house.Â
Dan does a very good job and has always been extremely gracious to me when I have emailed him. He's done a great job, doesn't seem to have much of an ego from what I can tell anyway, and definitely helps out the little guys when he can.
There's enough room about there for everyone. Let's keep it positive!
Personally I find Dan's comments a bit vindictive towards anyone who is really called "Anonymous". Not much of a sense of humor with Dan over this is there? It's only a contest, and he's winning, so whats all the fuss about? You need a vacation Dan.Â
Check out what's happening at China Blawg where Ed Lehman and Chris Devenshire Ellis appear to really be going at it. The challenge has been issued to Devenshire-Ellis to produce proof he graduated law school, to produce proof he won his lawsuit against Lehman and to produce proof his China company existed before 2005. Will he do it? Those issues are far more interesting than this race, which we all know China Briefing is going to win by having its "readers" vote.
In the end, the real winnners are those who get the most links on Technorati because those are the blogs that are really read, really thought about, and that really have influence. I saw on one of the comments that China Law Blog has been linked to 4500 times compared with China Briefing at 34. Doesn't that say it ALL?Â
Interesting to note that:
1) Only 452 some odd people are registered at Chinalyst
2) the first two weeks saw each of the leaders at under 50 points, yet China Briefing gained 100_ in last day alone
3) China Law Blog doesn't even live in China, yet is in the lead
the winner will come down to who has more employees and who is paying more by the click .. not who has the best content.
Were this contest a measure of best content, All Roads Lead to China, China Business Blog, and Diligence China would be leading simply for having the ability write their own quality content.
They are obviously closer to the action
