I can understand why people do it, why they renounce their citizenship. But, still, even if I were getting killed with taxes, it would be tough. I can't imagine it being easy for a Roman citizen to give up his citizenship at (or close to) the zenith of the empire.

Well Swiss citizenship isn't so bad.

Unless you're of draftable age.

I'd drop my British nationality like a stack of bricks if it became a burden to me, and I had a better alternative.

I can't see my Canadian citizenship becoming much of a chore. I can make a good bit of money abroad before they would even consider taxing it.

My dad on the other hand, who was born in the US and left within a year is cursed with a having discovered a 40 year backlog of taxes about a year and a half ago. Believe me, the IRS can be a real pain in the neck when it chooses.
