The blogger was obviously right-wing, and I didn't agree with her very harsh, judgemental position; rather, I found the debate in the comments thread rather interesting.

And as for the comparison with Catholic priests being arrested in China, well, if a group of Catholic priests or Buddhist monks knelt in the aisle and began praying loudly in English or some other foreign language on a Chinese plane, it would surely attract attention from passengers and security.</blockquote></div>

Furthermore, in China a Catholic Priest doesn't have to practice his religion in public to be arrested. In China, it's illegal for Catholics to practice their religion even in private.

Interesting. If they indeed refused to be searched, I have no choice but to feel somewhat less sympathetic. The link you posted and its comments are intriguing. If only the reporter didn't cite Powerline as a reference (the most pig-headed far-right blog out there).

Your point, Sonagi, about how terrorists try to fit in and not stand out, is spot on.

They were thrown off the plane because they refused to be searched. Below is a link to comments on related blog:

The passengers and Homeland Security overreacted not only from a human rights standpoint but also from a logical standpoint. Terrorists in the West try to blend in, not stand out. The 9-11 hijackers shaved their facial hair prior to going to the airport on that fateful day.

It was the wrong thing to do (throwing them off the plane), but I can't say I blame Americans for being nervous seeing a group of Muslims on their plane praying out loud. Now, that doesn't mean the Muslims should be thrown off the plane. But the anxiety is understandable. There's no way such a sene wouldn't bring back painful and anxious memories.
