Another environmental disaster: toxic spill in reservoir

This is yet another mindless accident that makes my blood pressure goes up a few notches. It is not in fact an accident; it’s a man-made disaster. Nor is it an isolated incident because another toxic spill into the Songhua River last year halted water suppliers to millions in China and Russia.

International Herald Tribute reported that an overloaded truck with a malfunctioning break overturned and dumped 33 tons of toxic oil into a river in Shanxi Province. The polluted water then flowed into a nearby reservoir, contaminating 2 million cubic meters of water. As a result, some 28,000 residents had their water supply cut and were living off water from fire engines.

According to the report, most of China's canals, rivers and lakes are severely tainted by agricultural and household pollution. Chinese leaders say the country faces a critical water shortage, in part because of chronic pollution and chemical accidents, which can quite easily be prevented if people are not that bloody mindless and selfish.

OK, I’ll have to calm down otherwise I’ll have a heart attack.
