I don't know what's more disappointing: the fact that China still doesn't allow independent trade unions, or the fact that the first union Wal-Mart has ever allowed is a state-run rubber stamp.

I thought as much. I heard that they close stores down if the succeed in Unionizing.

But isn't this just a sick irony? That the first union in a Wal-Mart is a corporatist stooge? Not that I have anything against corporatist stooges; I myself am one. But then why does the union exist? It's horribly inefficient then.
