The New Socialist Countryside

Almost 57 years later, it's good to see how far the Chinese people's revolution has progressed, with its objectives of overthrowing corruption and bringing an end to exploitation.

Quote:
Beaten slave workers freed from brick pit
Migrant workers - looking weary and grimy, with one munching on a piece of dry bread - stand in line after being rescued from captivity in a brick kiln in Yuncheng, Shanxi province.
Police freed the more than 30 migrant labourers who said they were beaten, forced to work up to 18 hours a day without pay for as long as two months and fed little more than boiled cabbage.

I once read something by Liu Binyan characterizing China's vast rural population as the country's "colonial subjects." Is this the new socialist countryside, a place where those below you on the ladder become your slaves?
