Recording Beijing

RecordingBeijing.com is a blog dedicated in capturing and recording the everyday life in Beijing, providing useful and credible information about living in Beijing, food, travel, shopping, housing, transportation, culture and customs, leisure, arts, and most importantly, the people.

Being a fast-changing city, Beijing is losing its precious memory on a daily basis. Traditions, cultures, architectures, arts, and lots of other “old” elements of Beijing are being replaced by the brutal wave of globalization.

The old and the new Beijing is being presented in different media forms in various ways. You can find sound clips, pictures, and videos of different people, things, places, and events in Beijing. Read the articles, listen to the sound clips, and watch the videos now, because some you experience today may no longer exist tomorrow.

No celebrities, no world-changing events, and no grandeur figures. RecordingBeijing.com only focus on the ordinary life of ordinary people, because they are the ones to make history and shape the future.

I mainly talk about Beijing on the blog but sometimes I’ll also be rambling about stuff happening in other places of China. If you want to have a better understanding of Beijing or China, this is the place to get that information!

Chengdu Letters

Submitted by Knifemaker on Sun, 2008-05-11 09:39. :: | | | | | | |

I am a teacher, a bicyclist, a martial artist, a cook. I am a lapsed filmmaker, an amateur photographer, and a sloppy linguist. My husband is a gifted healer and acupuncturist. Together, we are spending a year or more in Chengdu, China, as I teach applied linguistics at Sichuan University, and he furthers his studies in herbs and tui na massage. This site is not a travel guide for the curious or a how-to supplement for your Lonely Planet pocket pal. This is a place where I can wrap my words around the things we live, and where strangers and friends can put their ears to the ground for vibrations sent from the other side of the world.

Ghost City - Xinjiang, ChinaWhere the heck is Xinjiang? That's what I asked myself three years ago when my wife and I moved here, and now I'm just sharing a bit of this unique part of China with others. If you plan to visit, live, or work here...or if you're just curious about the culture of Xinjiang, this would be your first step.

China Travel 2.0 and Chinese traditional culture

Winser Zhao's picture

why creat a travel blog in English? good question. Well,China and Chinese always are difficult to know for some expats. it is really that difficult?or just because some reason,then what is the reasons? My friend,Elliott Ng wrote a post on CNReviews.com, tittled on Mind the Gap at 14:28: the Three Day Mourning Period and the American Twitterati,the URL is : http://tinyurl.com/6kqb72 .and Paul wrote another post on China affaires ,which is Let’s See How Many Ways We Can Get This Wrong, at http://tinyurl.com/5fu5gy . the debates are interesting. the difference is quite huge. I thought I should tell more about China to the foreingers. and let them come to see this country by their own eyes. China Travel 2.0 I talked this travel concept with some great travel friends. one is a blogger of family travel or travel with kids, one is a co-founder of a travel company, one is a investor in travel field. and one is a traveller from States. they all gave me the new idea of the travel. and they all are familier with the tradtional travel. say, the guide, the sight seeing, the tickets,the arranged food, the itinerary,etc,all are booked half years ago and all arranged by the travel agency. the limited hours in a spot, no excited during the tour,no communication with the local people… No, lets say No to this kind of travel. I named this traditional travel with dying travel. we need a different travel. so, in my mind, the travel 2.0 becoming clear and clear. I will give the guests a whole new view of local. am trying to do so. in a word, there is no guide in the travel 2.0, only friends. the friends tell you the backgrounding, the friend show you the local sight seeing, the friend introuduce the food or the foot massage for you. you can stay at the same spot as longer as you will, or you can make your own itinerary basis on the friends recommendation. you can go anywhere, including some not open to the tourist place. you can make yourself more like a local person, not the tourist from outside China. you can learn the calligraphy from my teacher if you like, you can learn the taiji quan from my Shi fu if you like, you can join a local hiking with the local youth if you like, you can learn Chinese in my home if you like, etc, all is determined by yourself. and what is the important, you will touch the deep China, and what you learned is the core culture of China. this is the brand new concept of travel, you can join us if you like. and lets to it better. lets make the travel more interesting and more local and more fun.
